Stephen Frears, director of THE QUEEN and HIGH FIDELITY, continues to demonstrate his genre-defying talent with this adaptation of a Colette novel. Set in Paris in the years before World War I, CHERI paints a picture of the romance between young Chéri (Rupert Friend) and retired courtesan Léa (Michelle Pfeiffer). Chéri’s mother (Kathy Bates), a rival of Léa, plots to separate the pair by arranging a marriage between her son and Edmée (Felicity Jones). Screenwriter Christopher Hampton previously collaborated with the director on DANGEROUS LIAISONS.
After sold out shows around the country, "Upstairs Live At The Triplex" is proud to present the New England premiere of Broadway actor Marvin Starkman and playwright Bob Feinberg's new play "EDDIE", directed by Max Daniels.
"EDDIE" is a one man show where co-writer Starkman steps into the role of Eddie Jacobson, a Kansas City businessman whose historic friendship with Harry Truman is cited as one of the determining factors of Truman's recognizing the new Jewish State of Israel just 11 minutes after independence was declared in Tel Aviv.
Only two months earlier, the President - furious over the criticism he was receiving from some prominent Jews - had refused to meet with Jewish leader Chaim Weizmann at the White House. What transpired during the next two months changed the course of world history . . . and much of the credit goes to Eddie Jacobson, who risked his lifetime friendship with the President to influence this historic decision. Now hear the remarkable story about a remarkable friendship, as told by "Eddie."
Intimately staged as if Jacobson is telling his tale to a reunion of war buddies, Starkman entertains the audience with the story of Jacobson and Truman, from their days fighting together in the First World War to a failed attempt at opening a haberdashery. "Eddie" ties together a story of friendship and trust that ultimately played a part in one of the most important pieces of American foreign policy ever conceived.
"EDDIE" marks the return to acting of Marvin Starkman, a veteran of the New York stage and film scene and the founder and principal of the Starkman Agency, Inc., a world renowned talent agency. Co-written with his long time writing partner Bob Feinberg, a writer whose work has appeared in Playboy as well as on series like "Mork and Mindy" and "The Facts Of Life, "EDDIE" tells the story of a crucial moment in American history through the warmth and humanity of the man who made it happen.
“Eddie” is sponsored in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc.

PG (for some thematic material and disturbing images) | 1 Hr. 40 Min. | Documentary
In "Food, Inc.," filmmaker Robert Kenner lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing the highly mechanized underbelly that's been hidden from the American consumer with the consent of our government's regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA. Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of e coli--the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.
Featuring interviews with such experts as Eric Schlosser ("Fast Food Nation"), Michael Pollan ("The Omnivore's Dilemma") along with forward thinking social entrepreneurs like Stonyfield Farms' Gary Hirschberg and Polyface Farms' Joe Salatin, "Food, Inc." reveals surprising -- and often shocking truths -- about what we eat, how it's produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.
Upstairs Live at the Triplex proudly welcomes back renowned slam poetry performer Taylor Mali, for a performance of his one- man show at Upstairs Live at the Triplex on Saturday, July 11th at 9 p.m.
One of the original poets to appear on the seminal HBO series "Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry", Mali presents his poetry to the audience with a unique and enthralling performance that had The New York Times describe him as a "ranting comic showman and a literary provocateur."

He was also the “golden-tongued, Armani clad villain” of Paul Devlin’s 1997 documentary film “Slam Nation”, which chronicled the National Poetry Slam Championship of 1996, the year of Mali’s first national team championship.
A former teacher and a poet, Mali is a native of New York City and a vocal advocate of teachers and the nobility of teaching. He received a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant in 2001 to develop “Teacher! "Every Little Step" explores the incredible journey of "A Chorus Line," from ambitious idea to international phenomenon. Through 15 years of continuous performances from the 70's to 90's and a revival beginning last year, "A Chorus Line" has touched generations around the world with stories so poignant, they could only have come from truth. The film compares and contrasts the original musical with the current revival. It investigates the societies in which they've debuted, and why the themes are so timeless and universal.
The film goes behind the scenes with exclusive interviews and footage of the revival's audition process, revealing the dramatic journey of the performers, and unfolding the story of life imitating art. The real dead-of-night conversations in a dance studio that inspired "A Chorus Line" were recorded to audio tapes which have been locked away for decades. The filmmakers, James D. Stern and Adam Del Deo, were granted unprecedented access. Interviews, then and now, with the creative minds who shaped "A Chorus Line" and the cast who realized it provide fascinating insights and reveal the truths behind the genesis of the show.
Ultimately, just as in the story of "A Chorus Line," just as in life itself, only a few can prevail. Out of the thousands of performers who audition, only 19 are chosen to open the revival on Broadway. Their lives are interwoven with one of the world's greatest musicals, their hopes and dreams hanging in the balance. This is their story, and the story of the phenomenon known as "A Chorus Line."
